Teen Section
Welcome to the Teen section of our website.

This area of our website is for teens who may be interested in the subject of chemical addiction, or may be struggling with their own personal use. We welcome you to explore the information we will provide in this site.

For teens who are simply interested in the subject:

The issue of chemical use/abuse has grown over the last decade. Many teens report that they actually know more peers who use, than don't. While this is a common belief, the research contradicts this belief.

Here are some interesting web links about the issues of drug use and addiction, as well as specific information about various substances.

For teens who are currently, or have used mood altering chemicals:

For those of you who are visiting who have used mood altering chemicals, we welcome you to our site. If you are visiting here, you must have questions, or some basis for being curious about what information we have to offer.

If you are indeed wondering about whether or not your use is a problem, we invite you to ask yourself the following questions:

    * Does it take more of your drug of choice to get the same effect?
    * Have you gradually increased the amount you use over time, or switched to other chemicals?
    * Have you ever had a hangover, blackout or passed out?
    * Have you ever used more than planned?
    * Have you ever used in situations that would be high risk, or showing poor timing?
    * Do you still use despite having had problems because of your use?
    * Have you ever missed important appointments, obligations, or activities as a result of your use?
    * Have you ever had a strong desire to use again within a few hours of your last use?

If you answered yes to more than two of these questions, you should honestly consider a more indepth exploration of your use.

The longer you use mood altering chemicals, the higher the likliehood of addiction, and/or continued problems.

If you do believe that you may have a problem, please consider talking to your parents as soon as possible. If this is not possible, you may contact one of our Case Managers at First Step by calling (503)639-9096. We would welcome the opportunity to talk to you.
